In China, there are over 140,000 kilometers of expressways by 2019, including 68 national expressways and more than 1600 regional expressways. An Intelligent Transport System (ITS) is considered extremely important for building a comprehensive and effective nationwide expressway traffic system. The expressway traffic surveillance, including traffic monitoring and traffic control, along with traffic information management are considered the essential steps to create a nationwide expressway system.

Tianjin, as a major economic center and logistic hub in northern China with eight regional expressways and six national expressways running through the city, its expressway network links up the north, east and south of China. In 2018, Rancent was involved in designing and offering a tailored fiber optic connectivity solution for traffic surveillance system at the newly built 235km Tianjin-Shijiazhuang Expressway, connecting the cities of Tianjin and Shijiazhuang, the capital of Hebei. The construction of the traffic infrastructure will further strengthen the convenient transportation links between Tianjin Binhai New Area and Xiongan New Area to form a new economic corridor and promote the coordinated development of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.

Rancent RCGE1F1-IND Gigabit Industrial Ethernet Switches were used to provide real-time and reliable transmission for high definition video signals collected from 5 Megpixel IP cameras and PTZs installed along the highways, at the toll stations, and in the tunnels. And the RCGE2F2-IND 4-Port Gigabit Industrial Ethernet Switch and RCINGE12F8-MS 20-Port Gigabit Managed Industrial Ethernet Switch were integrated to provide a redundant Gigabit Ethernet backbone supporting long-distance communication of  IP cameras, VIDS, VMS and VSS signals collected from the field devices along the highway to the central traffic management center.
